Blanch the finely chopped cluster beans preferably in steam, this will keep the vitamins intact than draining the excess water off. Blend the 1 cup grated coconut, turmeric powder, cumin seeds, birds eye chilly, curry leaves, garlic cloves in a mixer. Traditionally this mixing is done on a stone tool called Ammikallu.
Heat oil (preferably coconut ), add mustard seeds wait till the seeds splutter. Add urad dal, 1/2 cup coconut, grated onions and sauté till onions become golden brown. Add 1/2 table spoon salt and sauté well. Finally add the blanched beans and coconut paste to this mixture and keep saluting till the beans become tender and its aroma is released. Cluster beans dry curry is delicious side dish served along with boiled rice and also makes a good suit for phulkas( dry chapathi). Beans thoran is mandatory side dish for Kerala traditional wedding feasts.
